most pleasant and unpleasant sounding words in the world
Aditi listed the objectives of Randy’s
speech project and Vishal gave an introduction.

of each person in the club audience.

Fairly
unique
·
With
all due respect
·
Shouldn’t

·
24/7
Randy shared a story about a friend who
frequently uses the phrases “at the end of the day” and “basically”. Randy used pauses to build up suspense in his
story. Randy read a note for his friend
and then invited the audience to avoid clichés by creating new phrases:
·
He’s
all foam but no beer
·
He’s
all sizzle but no steak
·
He’s
all candle but no wick
Randy lit a candle and ended his speech with
the expression “It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness” and
reminded everyone to remember people’s names.

Evaluator #1: Ruth
on Lara’s speech: Competent Leadership Guide

about how Lara has changed and developed from someone who started out quiet and
less willing to speak when first joining this club. Ruth thought Lara’s word choice could have
been better but noted Lara was very enthusiastic.

Toastmasters, Why Now?
Samya
evaluated David’s speech. Samya
mentioned how David’s presence propelled his speech and that he was persuasive
and provided examples of powerful people who are Toastmasters. Samya spoke about how David brought it back
to the people in the room and why we should be here. Samya noted David’s wonderful closing points:
“What’s in it for me?”, “What’s it going to cost me?” it is inexpensive,
reminding us our efforts are great.
Samya noted David’s smile and encouraged him to smile more.
